Global Compassion: Beyond the Self With Special Guest Richard Gere, Followed by a Book Signing of Matthieu’s New Book, Beyond the Self

Matthieu Ricard is a Buddhist monk and an international best-selling author who left a career in cellular genetics to study Buddhism in the Himalayas.

Join an evening talk with renowned Buddhist monk Matthieu Ricard, whose best-selling books include Altruism: The Power of Compassion to Change Yourself and the World.

Exploring the global movement to a more compassionate world, Ricard is joined in the second half of the evening by a very special guest.

Sometimes called the “happiest man in the world,” Matthieu Ricard is an internationally renowned Buddhist monk, author, and scientist. After training in biochemistry at the Institute Pasteur, Matthieu Ricard left science behind to move to the Himalayas and become a Buddhist monk—and to pursue happiness, both at a basic human level and as a subject of inquiry. He has come to believe that achieving happiness requires the same kind of effort and mind training involved with any other serious pursuit. Mindfulness expert Jon Kabat-Zinn has stated that Ricard’s recent book, Altruism: The Power of Compassion to Change Yourself and the World, is “the most important book written in the past ten years.”
