Matthieu Ricard appreciates your request, but does not consider himself as a teacher and therefore cannot grant such requests. He suggests that you find a teaching center in your own country.

I wish to do a retreat in a monastery in the Himalayas, and would like to be advised on where I could go

Matthieu Ricard lives in a monastery that does not have the infrastructure to welcome retreatants.
The great majority of monasteries in India and Nepal represent authentic traditions, and we are therefore unable to recommend one over another. The best way to find a place for a retreat in the east is to travel in India and Nepal, make contact with monasteries, and see what possibilities they offer.
